Antony Woodley debutta dietro la macchina da presa con questo Outpost 11,un film dal budget risicato ma che incrocia thriller,fantascienza e orrore in maniera tale da ricordare i lavori di registi gloriosi come Cronenberg e Lynch quindi se siete spettatori a caccia di grosse dosi di adrenalina o frenesia questo film non è decisamente per voi.
Siamo in un mondo alternativo dal vago sapore steampunk,dove da 200 anni si combatte una guerra fra britannici e prussiani,nello specifico ci troviamo nell’avamposto 11,una stazione d’ascolto posizionata al polo e dove si eseguono misteriosi progetti segreti,al suo interno troviamo 3 soldati britannici, Mason,Graham e Albert ,i quali vivono una vita fatta di routine fino a che l’accensione di una luce di segnalazione non li farà precipitare in una spirale di terrore.
Lento e claustrofobico,sono i primi 2 termini che mi vengono in mente per parlarvi di quest’opera,nonostante l’ambientazione preveda l’esistenza di una guerra in atto non ci sarà spazio per l’azione,tutto si gioca sulla tensione e sul mistero,su un delicato equilibrio fra ciò che è reale e ciò che non lo è che si assottiglia sempre più con il passare dei minuti fino a trovarsi davanti una situazione in cui per lo spettatore è impossibile distinguere le 2 cose.
Il cast è sostanzialmente formato da 3 persone Billy Clarke, Luke Healy e Joshua Mayes-Cooper,attori poco conosciuti ma che in questo film fanno assolutamente bene il loro lavoro aiutando ed alimentando il clima di paranoia generale
Purtroppo Outpost soffre di una gigantesca lacuna,per tutto il film semina dubbi ed incertezze ma al momento del raccolto il finale mostra un campo quasi arido,senza dirci con certezza a cosa abbiamo assistito durante il film ,questa pecca potrà dare addirittura l’illusione a qualche spettatore di aver gettato via i 90 minuti occorsi per arrivare alla fine,per me così non è stato ma di sicuro ne ha abbassato il voto complessivo.
Traendo le conclusioni direi che Outpost 11 è un film particolare,decisamente non per tutti e di sicuro non da vedere per puro intrattenimento.
