Mighty Morphin Power Rangers , un nome che per chi come il sottoscritto è nato fra fine anni 80 ed inizio 90 provoca leggeri brividi ed un po’ di nostalgia,una serie tv che in italia ha iniziato la sua storia nel 1994 facendoci conoscere le avventure dei 5 ( poi 6 ) studenti di Angel Groove alle prese con la perfida strega intergalattica Rita Repulsa ed i suoi scagnozzi , molti nerd della mia generazione avranno sicuramente pensato prima o poi di voler diventare Power Rangers e fra un sogno e l’altro hanno riempito casa dei più disparati gadget tra action figure di varie dimensioni ,armi giocattolo,maschere e costumi rendendo ricchi e felici Saban Entertainment e Bandai ( e anche ora le cose non sono poi cambiate).
Immaginate quindi il mio mix di timore ed eccitazione nello scoprire che la casa editrice BOOM! Studios ( esperti in questo settore Comics \ Tv series \ cinema ) svilupperà una versione a fumetti della serie originale,con una storia scritta da Kyle Higgins (Batman Eternal, Nightwing) ovviamente questo articolo è stato scritto basandosi sulle impressioni avute dopo la lettura del numero #0 ed attendendo il #1 in uscita USA ad Aprile.
La prima impressione sull’opera e che gli sceneggiatori ne conoscano bene l’ambiente,lo rispettino,non vogliono trattare la storia dei Power Ranger come una favola per bambini , ma mostrarli in maniera maggiormente adatta alla fanbase originale , che con loro è cresciuta e quindi ha bisogno d’avere archi narrativi che si adattino al loro nuovo status di adulti , ma che riescano a mantenere tutti i sapori anni 90 al proprio interno.
Veniamo quindi subito a contatto con i Ranger già formati nella formazione 5+1 con Tommy ribellle ranger verde alle prese con le influenze residue del controllo di Rita,niente prima storia introduttiva o flashback di come siano diventati ranger, un primo numero che è tranquillamente visibile come un vero e proprio episodio della serie, con tanto di comparsa per i tanto amati Megazord,nonostante questo rimane un avventura facilmente digeribile anche per i nuovi lettori.
I disegni sono affidati a Hendry Prasetya, il quale ci regala ottime scene,appprofittando della libertà maggiore che i fumetti godono rispetto alla live action , qui il limite è la fantasia, niente budget per le scene e Hendry approfitta a pieno di questo miglioramento, l’aspetto dei ranger nei loro attimi civile è moderno e diversificato , in linea con le caratteristiche di ogni personaggio,anche se le dinamiche interne al gruppo sembrerebbero meno basilari rispetto a quelle viste in TV, con un gruppo non esattamente perfetto e coeso al suo interno.
Inoltre sarà presente nell’albo una storia breve con protagonisti le spalle comiche della serie tv ovvero Bulk e Skull quest’ultima scritta da Steve Orlando (Undertow, Midnighter).
Un piccolo ritorno al passato , sinceramente penso che seguirò la serie ,almeno inizialmente per vedere dove vogliono portare la storia e sperare di confermare quello che di buono sembra aver iniziato.
