Air è un film di fantascienza low Budget ambientato in un futuro prossimo dove per qualche ragione l’aria è diventata non più respirabile,gli USA hanno costruito una serie di bunker dove tenere in sonno criogenico una serie di selezionatissimi scienziati,ultima speranza dell’umanità,ognuno di questi bunker è guidato da 2 ingegneri i quali vengono svegliati ogni sei mesi per circa 2 ore,con il compito di svolgere le operazioni di check-up del bunker, tutto sembra andare bene fino a che una delle capsule degli sorveglianti non si guasta.
La pellicola rappresenta il debutto alla macchina da presa di Christian Cantamessa ed ha fra i suoi produttori il papà di Walking Dead Robert Kirkman anche lui per la prima volta in questa veste,la trama ha un apparenza di originalità,nonostante possa ricordare in alcuni punti altre opere come ad esempio Pandorum ma ambientato nel la botola di Lost ,tuttavia risulta non sempre efficace nel trasmettere le sensazioni,riesce discretamente ad imprimere la claustrofobia della vita nel bunker ( anche se discretamente è poco per un film totalmente ambientato in un bunker)non riesce però a giocare con il resto delle sensazioni che la storia mette a sua disposizione,la paranoia ,l’istinto di sopravvivenza,l’idea che 2 ingegneri possano giocare ad essere Dio ( cosa che invece Pandorum ben ha usato) vengono solo toccate ma mai a pieno usate,probabilmente un grosso errore visto che avrebbero creato diversi layer pronti ad offrire visioni diverse ad uno spettatore.
Il cast è ridottissimo,praticamente un 2 +1 con 2 protagonisti(Bauer e Cartwright, ) ed un terzo personaggio secondario(Abby),Norman Reedus (Walking Dead , Pandorum) e Djimon Hounsou ( settimo figlio,Fast & Furious 7) sono i protagonisti mentre Sandrine Holt ( Fear the Walking Dead ) è la terza incomoda,la recitazione è a buoni livelli,nulla di eccelso o particolarmente emozionante ma decisamente il linea con un film low budget.
95 minuti è la durata di Air,ben girato ma mai totalmente convincete per il sottoscritto ma in grado di strappare un 6 ,con una sceneggiatura più strutturata avrebbe potuto essere un opera molto più interessante ed arrivare veramente a far mancare l’aria allo spettatore,peccato,speriamo che Cantalamessa abbia altre occasioni per mostrare le sue doti dietro la macchina da presa.
