A un malato terminale di cancro viene concessa l’opportunità di trasferire la sua coscienza nel corpo di un giovane uomo. Successivamente scopre che il suo nuovo corpo non era in realtà “carne vuota” come gli era stato promesso, bensì era in precedenza esso stesso dotato di una coscienza e aveva una famiglia.
Self/less è un film Thriller con elementi di fantascienza del 2015 diretto da Tarsem Singh (immortals),dimostrazione probabile di come avere grandi nomi nel cast possa non coincidere con la realizzazione di un bel film,soprattutto nel settore sci-fi.
In un film di questo tipo la profondità della trama dovrebbe giocare un ruolo fondamentale,un elemento in grado di stratificare la visione fino a dargli diversi significati oppure anche solo essere abbastanza solida da reggere l’intera visione senza essere totalmente prevedibile,questo film invece non riesce ad ottenere nessuno dei 2 obbiettivi,si accascia in un esplosione di action e dimentiche le opportunità di giocare con la morale umana,sviluppa una narrazione che in parte ricorda il più riuscito Limitless tanto che se si è visto il suddetto film e si è dotati di una discreta dose di elasticità mentale si possono trovare tantissime somiglianze,con la differenze che lo scambio dei corpi\delle coscienze è un tema trito e ritrito nella storia del cinema.
L’azione c’è,ha un buon ritmo ed è ben coreografata,i colpi a sorpresa che la sceneggiatura voleva nascondere invece sembrano non funzionare,almeno non sul sottoscritto,l’illusione è che il terreno su cui muovere le pedina sia preparato in modo troppo appariscente e tenuto in vista per troppo,finendo per perdere di efficacia nel momento fatidico.
Il cast ruota su Ben Kingsley(Schindler’s List ), e Ryan Reynolds(Lanterna Verde),protagonisti del film,oltre a loro sono presenti anche Matthew Goode ( Watchman),Natalie Martinez (Death Race) ,Victor Garber(Argo) e Derek Luke (Antwone Fisher).
Un film che raggiunge a parere mio a malapena la sufficienza , peccato perchè la trama apriva porte a milioni di dilemmi di etica e moralità che non vengono mai nemmeno sfiorati.
